Parent Power

Led by parents, the NYC Coalition for Educational Justice is organizing a movement to end the inequities in the city’s public school system. We are a collaborative of community-based organizations and unions whose members include culturally diverse parents, community members, students and educators. We are motivated by the urgent need to obtain a quality and well-rounded education for all students. We will mobilize the power of parents and the community to affect policy change and create a more equitable educational system.

Liberation School is a free, virtual online school that will offer academic support courses, social-emotional support, healing centered practices, and political education courses to NYC public school families throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Liberation School is designed as a response to the failings of the Department of Education to adequately provide the resources and support needed for marginalized students.

About Parent Power: Parent Power School educates, empowers and instills confidence and hope for Black, Brown and immigrant parents to be articulate messengers and change agents on education issues affecting their children and the community.  By developing the voices, skills, issue expertise and relationships of public school parents and community members Parent Power School will build and strengthen CEJ.
