CEJ Releases Report Highlighting Exclusion of People of Color from English Language Arts Curricula in NYC Schools

On December 4th, 2019, CEJ released a new comprehensive report on the lack of representation of people of color in NYC’s English Language Arts (ELA) curricula and booklists, and called on the NYC Department of Education (DOE) to commit to creating and funding Culturally Responsive Curriculum in New York City schools.

CEJ’s new report reveals the depth of the lack of representation, diversity and inclusivity, through the evaluation of more than 1,200 books across sixteen commonly-used English Language Arts (ELA) book lists and curricula from 3-K to 8th grade.
